About Romania

The New World of Romania may be embodied by the Parliament Palace and the subway network in Bucharest, or by the Western styles of life adopted by Romania's townsfolk.
Romania lies in South-Eastern Europe. Its neighbours are Bulgaria (South), Yugoslavia (South-West), Hungary (North-West), Ukraine (North), Moldavia (East), the Black Sea (East).
The area of Romania is 91,699 sq. miles (237,500 sq. km and its population, according to the 1992 census, is 22,788,993, mainly Romanian, alongside Hungarian, German and Gypsy minorities. About 55% of Romania's inhabitants live in urban areas, and the rest in rural areas.

Once known as the Paris of the East, Bucharest is brightening and you can find cafes hidden on side streets, the Romanian Opera House, the huge national museum, traditional nightclubs, and restaurants serving local dishes.
Of course, more traditional sights include the Old Court Church, with beautiful frescos in the heart of old Bucharest, and the luxurious Athenee Palace Hotel.
Probably the most prominent landmark in Bucharest is former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu's Palace of the Parliament (the largest building in Europe and now home to one of the world's largest convention centres). It is sometimes referred to as the "palace of the people" by locals.
The National Museum of Art of Romania is also located in the palace and houses works from Paul Cézanne, Eugène Delacroix, Camille Pissarro, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, not to mention Romanian artists.
Away from the palace, another Bucharest landmark is Arcul de Triumf (The Triumphal Arch), built in 1935 and styled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
